What many people don’t know about me is that I am passionate about horses. I have been a thoroughbred racehorse breeder for over three decades and I endeavour wherever possible, to contribute to the development of equestrian sport in South Africa.

So, it was with great honour that I accepted the invitation to be the patron of Equestria in 2005.

I am delighted that the vision to bring an indoor show-jumping event of international standard to this country has come to fruition. It was certainly long overdue.

Already, Equestria has won the hearts of it audience and I believe that it is now firmly entrenched as a new South African festive season tradition.

Equestria has also emerged as an ideal platform for showcasing our local talent and has an important role to play in providing our riders with the experience they need to compete at an international level.
Staging an event of this magnitude takes enormous courage and a lot of hard work.

I congratulate the Equestria team on a job excellently executed.
